Automatic Transfer Switches and Redundancy

First off, it is amazing to find a forum full of like minded individuals and thanks for any input into this thread.

Recently, I have been approached with concerns for our ATS being the single point of failure.

I'm seeking more information regarding ATS and their failure rate, or if there are any other solutions to tie in with the existing ATS to provide more redundancy.

Hello and welcome to the forums. Two options you might consider for mitigating risk at the transfer switch are 1) an external bypass to allow safe testing or servicing of the unpowered switch cabinet while the critical load remains powered up and 2) redundant switches. In my experience, option 1, along with a regular testing and maintenance program, is equally reliable and much more cost-effective than option 2.
