VMware, Inc. is a subsidiary of Dell Technologies that provides cloud computing and platform virtualization software and services. With VMware server virtualization, a hypervisor is installed on the physical server to allow for multiple virtual machines (VMs) to run on the same physical server. Each VM can run its own operating system (OS), which means multiple Operating Systems can run on one physical server. All of the VMs on the same physical server share resources, such as networking and RAM.

VMware is perhaps most well-known for its hypervisor-related products. In a conventional virtualization system it was the case that virtual machines were run by hypervisors, which functioned as hosts.

VMware's hypervisors that run on hardware enabled these kinds of VM and VM monitoring configurations.

Recently, the vSphere server virtualization software has also altered the way that experts view network virtualization. For example, the way vSphere uses an open container virtualization resource that is open source known as Kubernetes is a great illustration of the complex nature of modern virtualization systems , and how they can be configured and operated.
