Determining the floor loading capability?

The floor loading capability of a computer room would be taken into consideration before going for a raised floor. How do we estimate the capability of the floor by knowing the thickness of concrete and surface area?

Also, what is the minimum capability that is required ?

The manufacturer's name and model number are often stamped into the underside of the tile. Call them up or search their web site.

There are two ratings you need to know: Static and Rolling Loads.

You should also take a look at the slab below. If you are in a multistory building and not on grade then you also need to be concerned with the capacity of the floor slab itself. The pedestals concentrate the load an dcrfeate a punching load. This will require a Structural Engineer (PE).

Thank you for the information.

I was actually concerned about any floor in a multistory building regarding it's capability to withstand the raised flooring and the load over it. Hope only a qualified structural engineer will be able to help.

Zhuhair,

Every building is different, so its best if you check with your landlord and they will usually send someone out to inspect what you want to put in. I know that several building I worked in would do this free of charge, but you might want to ask first just to be sure.

If you are installing anything large, like a UPS / AC unit you deffinatly need to check with your building and / or get permits to put these things in most places.

Good luck.
