Tool to query active directory

I've been looking for a really good tool to use in querying active directory to create certain reports. So far most of the tools I have come across are not free.

Does anyone know of a good free tool I can use to query active directory on our servers?

I know a plenty of active directory query tools but they are not free. I think you can get info regarding free tools through googling.

AD Query Tool

The AD Query Tool is yet another freeware from ManageEngine ADManager Plus. It is a simple query tool which displays the details of all the objects in a user specified container. The details displayed have relevance to the query that is posted by the user. This is a simple, easy to use tool that queries the AD and displays object information.

Using the tool:

1. Click the "AD Query Tool" from the Launcher to start the tool.
2. Specify Domain Name in the text field.
3. Specify the Active Directory query in the Query text area.
4. Click on the GENERATE button to get the corresponding attribute values.

Note: The Configure button will help you generate more attribute results for the Domain in accordance with the user’s query.

A more surgical AD Query tool that is totally free is called (surprisingly) AD Query from www.sysoptools.com

It differs from the above tools in that it displays all configured schema data for a single user or computer object. It smartly leaves out <null> fields so you don't have to poke through a list of non-configured fields. It converts binary / tick strings to date/time formats. very handy. Your can run multiple instances side by side and compare results between objects, i used it once to troubleshoot a kerberos ticket / trust issue between two identical servers. total time saver.

Hello
We use the Users and Computers snap-in often, as a main tool, and there are some helpful tips that we haven't yet covered. In addition, the snap-in is not the only tool available to manage Active Directory objects. Before we conclude this chapter, we'll say a few words about the Users and Computers snap-in, as well as about other means to manage objects.
The Users and Computers Snap-In

We have been using the Users and Computers snap-in throughout the chapter. Here we'll briefly fill in some last few holes.
Choosing a Domain

You can connect to another domain by right-clicking the uppermost line of the left pane (Active Directory Users and Computers...), selecting Connect to Domain, and then specifying a new domain either by typing its name or selecting it from a list.
Choosing a Domain Controller

Sometimes you want to communicate with a certain domain controller. You can choose one by right-clicking the uppermost line of the left pane (Active Directory Users and Computers...), selecting Connect to Domain Controller, and then selecting a new domain controller from a list or typing in a new domain controller's name in the dialog box
