Setting up a backup/data recovery system

Can anyone here tell me what the best method of setting a backup/data recovery system or plan is? I want to know how often you would backup data and then how many copies your data center makes etc.

I too would like to know how to setup a backup. I don't know if I should make a disk or cd. Also, how do I go about backing it up? What should I put on the disk or CD when I'm backing up my files?

You could take a look at R1 Soft's Continous data protection, we've been using it for a little while now.
