Hybrid Power
Is hybrid power a practical solution? Has it been implemented anywhere? Can it cut my my power costs?

Hi and welcome to the forums. I think you will get better answers to your question if you explain what you mean by hybrid power.

Yes, graham when you explain the questions, please provide detail information so our members can easily answer to your questions.

if by hybrid power you mean using more than one form of alternative sources of energy to supply power to the data center, the answer is yes and no. it is entirely based on what types of hybrid power you choose to use, the capacity of the data center and also the floor space available. the most popular combination is the solar cell and fuel cell; while it can get the data center off the grid, 100% uptime is not guaranteed. you have to rely on the power grid for backup purposes atleast.

Thank you guys for the responses. Solar energy maybe feasible for lighting and fuel cells for the back up batteries but are there any actual data centers running on say wind energy or geo-thermal energy? Are they practical considering smaller data centers more involved with storage?

You should be able to find lots of relevant information on the internet under the topic "cogeneration."
