backup solution

We are running virtual servers on vmware. We would like to have backup for those servers. What is the best way to do the backup? Do we need to use the snap backup? In this case if we want to restore,we have to restore whole thing.
What is the better way for vmware?

There are various tools -VMware VCB (with backup App), EsXpress, ESX Ranger (with backup App), also backup software like netbackup, symantec, legato, etc.. can connect to the VI infrastructure to backup the VM's.

Backup Exec System Recovery is probably one of the better ones. You can get a trial and check it out. The restoration takes about 30 minutes and the backup is pretty fast.

Well I think that using cron job to do the backup is the best way for having a regular backup of the hole server on the server itself or on another remote server.
this link may help you: http://www.eukhost.com/forums/f15/my...cron-job-6343/

You can back up your servers with Handy Backup Server, it's a complete enterprise backup solution with multiple server-specific functions.

VMware Consolidated Backup provides a centralized backup facility that enables you to use leading backup software from VMware partners to protect system, application, and user data in your virtual machines while reducing the load on virtualized servers.

You can even try the R1soft backup solutions, they have a complete different method for which the backup process and restoration are handled. http://www.r1soft.com/

Do you run Bacula? What's the cost per month on something like that? I've been looking at their site.. What option did you choose?

If you have virtual servers, wouldn't your online hosting company provide automatic backups, or can't you ask them to do weekly/daily updates for an extra fee? Save yourself some time, hassle, and money.

Dual Storage.

All the back ideas are great. Another tip I want to share is ..... keep a copy of the back up at a different location. Does not matter what electronic equipment you use in case some physically damaging situation occurs where you keep the back up the safety of the back up files will be compromised.
