tape backup?

i read somewhere that the data center companies plan to do away with tape backup.what are the disadvantages of tape backup? what is a more preferable option?

Tape Backup is still the best dollar for dollar way to store. Higher Density, less costs to maintain etc. Downside: Its slower, but hey, its backup. Google does a lot of backup on tape.

Tape backups are not reliable. They are prone to human error, magnetic tapes encounter problems in storage, and they take longer to backup and restore your network. Today there is faster methods to backup and restore networks.

I know a few companies who still use tape backup as their primary means of backing up and restoring their network. However, to me this is old and not so reliable. I would rather hire a company to backup and restore my data in case of a emergency.

Currently we use a RAID 5 to back up our data. This isn't such a secure system to use. There are problems with the disk arrays and the system crashing. I have considered moving all my data backups to the cloud.
