DRAC Card
Anyone have experience with the DRAC cards that come
with the Dell Servers? |
What is it used for ?. I am just wondering.

I noticed on ev1servers.net that the Dual Xeons come with a DRAC card
and I curious what is a DRAC card and what are the advantages of having one? |
Yes we do have several DELL servers with DRAC. It is simply a KVM/IP. It will allow you to interact with the server even to the BIOS level. Thus, you can change your BIOS setting, fsck your server, or get into your server when it locks up, all remotely.

Excellent post FHDave, thank you for the information.
Having servers with DRAC, would you say it's better to have than not? Does it make any difference in your experience? |
If you can have server with DRAC or some sort of KVM/IP to the server, then go for it. Some people offer console redirection. It's not the same at all. Console redirection works only on text. If won't do you any good if your windows server frezees up. DRAC or KVM/IP is a much more robust solution than mere console redirection. With DRAC you can also monitor the health of your computer (CPU temperature, fans status, etc). You can also use the DRAC to reboot from a OS image on the file on your computer, etc.
