I have been told Dell power edge are very good and I am planning on getting some myself.
I have also found Dell to a reasonably reliabe make in general.
They are reliable; however, we have found that their servers are picky on upgrade options purchased from other vendors.

we have recently ordered a poweredge SC 1425 and are really pleased with it.
The only thig that I found stupid is that the options on their website are really priced too high. (100€ for an extra 80 go sata drive.. ) But you can always add what you want later.

It isn't just that it's picky. You might void the Dell warranty by installing non Dell parts in the system, or replace existing ones with non Dell parts.
Their servers are very good, I would stick with their parts, and use the financing plans if you need to get a high end server that's over your budget. Their financial advisers are pretty nice and helpful with that.

Thank You

We got a shipment of Dell 1850's in and I have been pleased so far. They are high quality machines and have been doing quite well. Other than the issues I had with initially purchasing the machines I ended up getting a great deal.

We've got several 2650s. They work very well and we've had very few issues. My only comment is I can get Supermicros for a lot less money. We've found that the Supermicros are just as reliable but cost about 30% less for the same config.

That is not always the case, the Dells we got were a good deal cheaper than we get for similar Supermicros. You simply need to wait for the right time and get a good rep. That is an issue though, as you can't always get good deals.

Be aware that PE 6850 servers only come in 208VAC and higher. This has caused me to rethink deployment strategies in my environment.
Dell now has a good configuration spreadsheet that you can download that is comparable to HP's. You can spec your server and rack requirements as well or better than with Dell Rack Advisor.
