Why does everyone hate Compaq?

I am always hearing people say how bad Compaq is. I would actually have to say that I've always had good experiences with Compaq products. It was only after I started praising them that everyone tried to shoot me down and tell me why it was no good. I can only say, it probably depends on individual needs or maybe someone had the bad luck of purchasing a defective product.
