I am wondering if there was a source online that listed datacenters for sale? Does Enron have any left to sell? I could not find any.

I don't know of any national 'available datacenter' database. (At least not one that is available to the public.) Most major US markets have real estate agents that specialize in (or have divisions that specialize in) this type of property. Burgess Property and CB Richard Ellis come to mind.

dear packeteer,

may I ask one question: why are looking to purchase a datacentre?

You can search for the best data center with the help of Google.

Our site (Data Center Knowledge (http://www.datacenterknowledge.com)) tracks data center deals, so it may be of interest. There's no single site that chronicles what's for sale, but if you identify a market you can usually find sites with a little digging. Geography is critical, especially in terms of power costs and fiber availability. We just set up categories on Data Center Knowledge, so you can easily access archived articles by geographic market.

I think the Enron centers are long gone, and most of them went dirt cheap ... at least one sold for $250,000 (may have been New Orleans, I think DirectNIC/Zipa got one at a great price).

I would contact some realtors in the area you want, often they know about buildings that have existing pipe and power that are available.

If you are looking for land and build then it is important to work with the ISP(s) so you are in a place that has redundant fiber access from different providers.

Then use the realtor, also talk to the local power company and try to find a place on more than 1 grid.

Did you find a datacenter in the end? I would be interested to know what resource(s) you used.

I would contact existing data centers and find our if they own and maintain the facility or lease from an owner. Sago Networks has Tampa and Atlanta Data Centers with much space for expansion. We also house many resellers and offer colocation racks and cage areas as well. Many options above just buying one of your own too. Good luck and PM me if you have further questions.

I can vouch that Enron does not have a data center available. The company that I work for purchased all of the Enron data center equipment a few years ago. As a note Sioux Falls, South Dakota was recently declared the best location in the U.S. to locate a data center based on several criteria. That was the result of one study anyway.
