Do I have to virtualise or go into the cloud?

i am hearing so much about virtualisation and going into the cloud and the need for it for companies to handle their IT but I don't know if I need to do it or not. We hold a fair amount of data on the business we do but it's not as if we're a bank or anything!!! Is there a basic guide as to how many employees you have, how many computer terminals you have or how much data you are storing on a monthly basis to say when you should start using virtualisation or cloud computing? I read these articles like this one http://ow.ly/9VR1u but these seem to be for big businesses and not for us. Can anyone advise?

I think you are looking at mere numbers/statistics which isn't very helpful in your case. You should rather ask yourself what you can possible gain (or lose) by such a move, how crucial your data is to you and who you could possibly trust with it, which solution you have in place now and how you can improve it etc.
