This is most likely going to be a very stupid question. I am very new at managing out equipment in our colo.

With that said... we have 3 Dell 2970 PowerEdge servers with the following amount of HD space:
1) 400Gb (6x80Gb)
2) 1.5Tb (6x250Gb)
3) 400Gb (6x80Gb)

The question is, can I hot swap the drives to even the space among them out, essentially giving each 2x250 and 4x80? If so, will I need to reinstall OS's software, etc?

Again, apologies if this is a completely ridiculous question.

Why would you fix something that's not broken? I would leave them alone. Is there a reason you'd need to hot swap and spread them out? I'm trying to get a grasp on what you're trying to accomplish.
