There's quite a bit of debate going on in the WAN optimization space right now (think Riverbed, Silver Peak etc) where one vendor offers application optimisation, while the other says that you get the best performance boost by optimising everything by tweaking TCP.
Seems to me that application specificity means a continuous stream of upgrades and tweaks as the systems try to keep up with changing circumstances. Any thoughts?
