Hello to all

You should expect ample disk space for your pages. This is usually not a problem. In fact, quite often you are assigned more disk space than you need. But if you know you're going to need to store enormous files, make sure you're getting enough disk space. Also ask for clarification if their allocation of disk space includes just the web files, or if it also includes emails and log files.
Speaking of email, you should expect your hosting company to provide you with the capability to have many e-mail accounts - perhaps numbering in the hundreds. Also find out if they provide mail forwarding and aliases, which are email forwarding addresses to corral multiple emails into one central account. Other communication features should include FTP, or file transfer protocol capability, which allows you to upload files to your server easily.

Have a nice day

Points should include:

Actually the hosting plan description puts together all you can expect from your host + Acceptable Use Policy might cover essential points as well.

You should expect high uptime. Most host have no less than 99% as well as good customer support. Also it really depends on if it's managed, semi managed, or fully managed.

Some basic service like web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers.

Mostly features remains the same and at best level but support services are the key factor from clients point of view.

Support is definitely the most important factor. Round the clock availability of support is also a feature that most clients look out for. I guess most people grow impatient when they see their site down. So 24x7 support is a must for quality hosting.

Would anyone like to elaborate on what "support services" means?

Support services stand for customer support. Good customer support makes it easier for the customer to make maximum use of his or her hosting package.

Ease of use and quick customer support are also one of the essential services for good hosting.

What you expect from your host must begin with what you paid for in the first place.

If you paid for an unmanaged server, then all that you should expect is that your host keeps the hardware running in good order. Do not expect your host to install anything for you or answer questions about matters which has got nothing to do with the hardware which the host provided.

If you paid for a managed server, then you must know clearly the level of service you are buying. There is no such thing as one size fits all. At one end of the scale, the host does just about everything for you except make you a cup of coffee. Of course, you pay for the service. At the other end of the scale, the host sold you a managed service in name only. This is what normally happens when you buy a managed server which costs hardly more than an unmanaged one. Do not expect the host to just live on fresh air and sunshine.

Hope this is useful.

Support services include the following:

1. Maintenance of the hardware on which the server is running. This includes the computer components as well as peripheral equipment like connection cables, cooling systems and back-up power supply.

2. Maintenance of the software which runs the server. This includes the operating system, database software like mySql, scripting software like php and management software like cPanel.

Depending on the level of management service being paid for, support services may also include answering client enquiries, even if just to re-assure them that there are human beings looking after their server.
