Our client's IT Department has an immediate opening for a full-time Database Administrator, who will be responsible for analysing, recommending, building, and supporting database management systems required to meet its business objectives. Please note that this position occasionally requires overtime and after-hours work.
The ideal candidate would have:
* 5 years of experience administering Oracle databases
* A University degree in Computer Science (or equivalent working experience).
* A deep understanding of RDBMS structures and how they interact: tables, indices, triggers, procedures, etc.
* Experience with data model design and database stored procedure development
* Good knowledge of information systems theories, concepts, methods, and techniques
* A sound knowledge of current information system standards, process engineering approaches, and data management practices
* Experience with the full project lifecycle from conception to implementation and support
* Training in investment/finance or experience in financial industry an asset
* Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
* Ability to communicate and interact effectively with systems professionals and users
* Ability to work independently, prioritise work assignments, meet deadlines and produce an adequate volume of work
* Motivates and mentors other staff to apply data architecture best practises
* Resourcefulness, creativity, good judgement and a team player
* Consistently works toward developing skills and innovative solutions
* Strong initiative to take the lead in business and technology projects to achieve results
* Proactive customer service orientation and excellent customer relations
The major responsibilities of the Database Administator would include:
* Installation of new relational database servers and instances
* Troubleshooting full spectrum of database issues; solving root issue after treating symptom
* Taking initiative in improving operational procedures
* Interfacing effectively and independently with third party support groups
* Performing data migrations as required by the business
* Executing, scheduling and monitoring database maintenance
* Analyzing business problems and recommending best possible solution with respect to database resources
* Making recommendations for new technology adoption where appropriate
* Ensuring that personally completed deployments entering production are sound, and built following internal and industry standards
* Developing personal plans and milestones appropriate for completion of all work assignments
* Updating and communicating project status to management and users
* Maintaining currency in technical and investment industry trends through research/education/self-motivated training and personal development
