How does server connect to network?

I am just curious that how the server is connected to network. From my understanding,

Corriers (OC-3, OC-12,etc..)Connected to Core networkiing Routers.
Core networking routers to Switchtes.
Swithces to Server

If I am not correct, can you give the exact info.

That would be the 1,000 mile view of how it works, yes. We personall have 3 gig-e lines that are handed off as gig-e's that connect to our 6509's. Most servers connect to the 6509's, and some connect on the floor via ISL trunked 3550's.
