I can only speak for the ones I personally visited in Chennai and from what I've heard talking to people there.
VSNL probably has the highest-regarded datacenters, and their Chennai datacenter is spotless. Sify and Reliance are also considered in the same league. I've been to the Sify facility as well in Tidel Park, which is almost as nice as the VSNL datacenter. Reliance is not in Chennai and I didn't tour that facility. We use Sify and I'm happy with the facility.
No idea about market share... None of the datacenters have any problems selling you space, I know that for sure. There is no space crunch. VSNL wouldn't budge much on pricing in our negotiations, but Sify and Reliance were very much willing to negotiate. Good luck.

VSNL is filling up fast in Chennai, but they are still accepting managed hosting customers. Sify is also a good choice considering they are one of the few last mile providers in India.

Almost all of India's international bandwidth (totalling to over 1 GBps) comes through VSNL. All other about 120 ISPs and Datacenters currently peer with VSNL for their bandwidth. This makes VSNL the most suitable datacenter in India since it allows the content to be closest to all users in India.

GoOgLe Datacenter...
Yes princee18 you are right..
GOOGLE is interested in opening a Data Center in Asia and has shortlisted a few countries. India is one of the them but others like Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea and Vietnam are also strong contenders. Google has not yet decided which country is it going to be but it has made all the right sounds about which all countries it could be in the hope of getting the best bang for its investment in the form of tax holidays, sops etc from the host government.
need to wait and see...

I have no idea from where people like you get such figures. India has over 5 Tbps of bandwidth coming in (and this was like 2007-2008 estimate). VSNL (now owned by TATA) is perhaps the smallest operator in India's International IP-transit. Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata all have large undersea cable landing spots. Each cable coming in carries near to 0.5 to 1 Tbps of bandwidth and there are a whole bunch of them in each location. If all these cables are used to their capacity, India and most certainly increase its bandwidth capacity by atleast 25% over night.

Specific location what Google has planned is in Hyderabad. I can't see how they missed Mumbai or Chennai.

Ditto - we are connected in Mumbai - google has maximum number of servers here. The nixi exchange shows mumbai as having 4Tb/sec of transfer daily with Delhi 2nd at less than 1Tb/sec, Bangalore , hyderabad all have very little inter ISP traffic , Chennai has the least at 200mbps. Mumbai is the focal point for traffic .
BTW our own datacenter exists in Mumbai too ...
